This morning we had an in-depth, nuanced conversation about emergency contraception most likely being made available over the counter in the next couple of weeks and we need to shout out our former intern Sidra Zaidi for writing this knowledge bomb of an op-ed.

“These police chiefs, they’re tired of seeing their guys…and gals, being outgunned”

Obama works hard to make sure he’s using gender parity in his rhetoric. Is it important that politicians remember to acknowledge both him AND her? Does this kind of inclusive (or non-inclusive) rhetoric somehow make its way into our collective psyche?

Newly-minted Saturday talk show Vocalo host Audra Wilson joins hosts Molly Adams and Brian Babylon for a Feminist Wednesday State of the Union wrap up. They talk guns, election reform, abortion rights and other hot #SOTU topics.

Former AMp intern Haleema Shah calls Molly and Brian from Washington to give us the inside scoop on all things inauguration. And by that of course we mean: the best metal slabs to sleep on at the National Mall, the cheapest food you can find in D.C. and Elmhurst College’s party hook-ups on the Hill.

On Wednesday morning I went around the University of Chicago in Hyde Park and asked students about foreign policy.

Sad to say, not too many people wanted to talk about it, but the ones who did, gave me great feed back.

My first question to them was: how would you define America’s role in global politics? And what should our role be?

This is what they say:

The next question was…

Do you think drone warfare is the future of American military intervention? A study by the Pew Research Center released in June of this year reported that 62 percent of the American population approves the use of military drone strikes. But there is a growing concern abroad on how the US uses its power.

Most of the people I interviewed argued drone strikes kill too many civilians and create more terrorism.

If the use of military drones received seconds of attention during the presidential debates, issues related to the US detention center in Guantánamo Bay and extrajudicial killings received none.

I asked people if they were disappointed that those two issues didn’t come up during the presidential debates?

Some thought other issues needed more attention, but others worry that not too many people know enough about the issue to even question the process in which foreign civilians are being held in Guantanamo or the judicial proceedings to punish suspected terrorist.

Do you see differences between Obama and Romney’s foreign policies? This what Mitt Romney said during one of the presidential debates…

“The president was right to up the usage of that technology and believe that we should continue to use it to continue to go after the people who represent a threat to this nation and to our friends.”

Though both Omaba and Romeny’s foreign policy is similar, some believe that Mitt Romney is more aggressive, while others think Obama is less inclined to go to war.

We spoke with men and women from around Robert Morris University campus and asked them about the presidential debate on women’s reproductive rights.

This is what Maya and Amalia said about the debate. They feel the issue is being used as a distraction from other key topics in this year’s presidential election.

Megan Anderluh is an Obama supporter. However, she is turned off by the way both candidates have used women’s reproductive rights in order to appeal to women voters.

Obama got a lot of hype for his successful fundraising tactics as he kicked off his campaign last year, but now in the month of June, Romney has raised $106 million, where Obama has raised about $76 million. This was the second month in a row that Romeny and his supporters out-raised Team Obama.

But it’s not just his lavish fundraisers with Hamptons-vacationing, Ferrari-driving Americans, it’s his offshore accounts that have the Obama campaign accusing the Republican nominee of having greater interest in bettering himself rather than the country. Caller Max from Boston called the Amp to talk about why paying in to the larger community is how you prove your patriotism.
