On Wednesday morning I went around the University of Chicago in Hyde Park and asked students about foreign policy.

Sad to say, not too many people wanted to talk about it, but the ones who did, gave me great feed back.

My first question to them was: how would you define America’s role in global politics? And what should our role be?

This is what they say:

The next question was…

Do you think drone warfare is the future of American military intervention? A study by the Pew Research Center released in June of this year reported that 62 percent of the American population approves the use of military drone strikes. But there is a growing concern abroad on how the US uses its power.

Most of the people I interviewed argued drone strikes kill too many civilians and create more terrorism.

If the use of military drones received seconds of attention during the presidential debates, issues related to the US detention center in Guantánamo Bay and extrajudicial killings received none.

I asked people if they were disappointed that those two issues didn’t come up during the presidential debates?

Some thought other issues needed more attention, but others worry that not too many people know enough about the issue to even question the process in which foreign civilians are being held in Guantanamo or the judicial proceedings to punish suspected terrorist.

Do you see differences between Obama and Romney’s foreign policies? This what Mitt Romney said during one of the presidential debates…

“The president was right to up the usage of that technology and believe that we should continue to use it to continue to go after the people who represent a threat to this nation and to our friends.”

Though both Omaba and Romeny’s foreign policy is similar, some believe that Mitt Romney is more aggressive, while others think Obama is less inclined to go to war.
